Agoria member companies and the VDAB (Flemish Service for Employment and Vocational Training) signed a cooperation agreement on 9 October, joining forces to train (by preference Brussels) jobseekers to become a lift technician.
The Brussels technological training center TechniCity also takes part in this process. VDAB is responsible for the basic training and TechniCity for the lift technical training. Agoria brought VDAB, TechniCity and the elevator sector together to answer the shortage of lift technicians on the labor market.
Five large lift players, Coopman Orona, Kone, Otis, Schindler and ThyssenKrupp Liften-Ascenseurs, have shaped the course to match what companies need today as competencies.
The lift companies will also act as a training company: a part of the training takes place at the workplace. In this way, students can experience the job of lift technician during the training. The companies see the student functioning in a real business context and can thus assess the technical and 'soft' competencies of the trainee.
