The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent body and the world’s largest developer of voluntary standards. It is composed of representatives from various national standards organizations, including also the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Since its foundation in 1947, ISO has produced thousands of standards, which are used worldwide.
So why are ISO Standards so important to us?
Many of our member companies operate outside Europe therefore it is important to have uniformity with other countries around the world.
ISO/TC 178 current Chairman - Dr. Gero Gschwendtner - with the occasion of the recent release of ISO 8100-1/2, has handed over the ISO Excellence award to Christian de Mas Latrie (Former Chairman ISO/TC 178), Esfandiar Gharibaan (Chairman CEN/TC 10) and Ian Jones (Convenor CEN/TC 10/WG 1) during a European code meeting at the beginning of July. David Mc Coll (Convenor ISO/TC 178/WG 4) was also among the prize winners and will get his certificate during the next ISO/TC 178/WG 4 code meeting in November. The certificate was also co-signed by the ISO General Secretary Sergio Mujica.
ISO Lift Working Group (LWG) in charge of ISO 8100-1/2 is one out of more than 2700 global ISO WG´s, which shows the outstanding value of this award.
