An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products. Additionally EPDs of lifts may be used to evaluate the environmental impact of a lift within the building or to contribute to the green or sustainable certification of the building.
Product Category Rules (PCR) are documents that provide rules, requirements, and guidelines for developing an EPD for a specific product category. They are a key part of ISO 14025 as they enable transparency and comparability between EPDs. The PCR for lifts was published on October 14th, 2015 by environdec (https://www.environdec.com/PCR/Detail/?Pcr=9211). Since its publication, 14 EPDs of lifts have been published.
PCRs have a limited validity and need to be regularly revised. The revision of the PCR for Lifts was initiated in July 2019 to make the PCR compliant with the latest General Programme Instructions. Other relevant developments to be considered for the development of the PCR include alignment with standards such as:
- EN 15804. Sustainability of construction works. Environmental product declarations. Core rules for the product category of construction products
- ISO 21930. Sustainability in buildings and civil engineering works. Core rules for environmental product declarations of construction products and services
- EN 15978. Sustainability of construction works - Assessment of environmental performance of buildings - Calculation method
To facilitate the development of this PCR and enable contribution of all stakeholders, its validity was extended until October 14th, 2020. By this date the revised version of the PCR for Lifts shall be published.
We would like to encourage all stakeholders interested in the PCR for Lifts to contribute to this process for the revision of the PCR. Further information as well as a timeline is available on the website of environdec (https://www.environdec.com/PCR/Detail/?Pcr=9211)
